National protected industrial action by Immigration and Border Protection staff
Employees of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP), including the Australian Border Force (ABF), who are members of the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU), will undertake protected industrial action (PIA) across Australia this week.
From Wednesday to Friday (16-18 September 2015) and the following Monday to Wednesday (21-23 September 2015) passengers travelling internationally may experience delays at airports.
ABF Acting Deputy Commissioner Operations, Stephen Allen, said travellers should not be alarmed by this action, but allow extra time for processing.
“We recommend that passengers booked on international flights departing next week arrive early in accordance with your airline’s guidelines,” Mr Allen said.
“After check-in, we suggest passengers promptly proceed straight to immigration and customs clearance.”
“We are continuing to work closely with our partner agencies to minimise impacts on operations”.
“The health, safety and security of the public and our staff continue to be our priority”.
Further information on the airport stoppages will be published on the Department’s website (www.border.gov.au ) and official Facebook page.
The proposed enterprise agreement will be put to a vote by employees on Tuesday, 15 September 2015.
